A foodarama at Homearama: Carolina Cupcakery is there!
More may be added, said Mary E. Prier, staff vice president with TBA's public relations and production. "This will be the first time we've had it on a Monday," she said of the Taste component. "But this usually brings people out.... It's a chance for restaurants to show a lot of people in a short period of time what they can do and what they have to offer." Prier said each participant will be set up in one of the model homes. "People can line up along the kitchen counter and sample the wares," Prier said. Patrick Evans-Hylton, senior food and wine editor for Hampton Roads Magazine, said the food and aromas at these models may be as influential and important as interior design schemes and furniture. "It will give the public the opportunity to visualize ways to entertain and cook in these models," said Evans-Hylton, also a cookbook author and culinary critic. "This takes a house for sale and transforms it into a home for sale." Guest-tasters will be given ballots at each model to select a "People's Choice" winner. Plus, Evans-Hylton, Bryan Brady, a student at the Culinary Institute of Virginia; freelance food writer Steve Marsey; and noted area chef Monroe Duncan will choose the event's "Critics Choice" winner. "We will go around in a group, taste, take notes on presentation and taste, and then arrive at our decision," Evans-Hylton said. "I've been associated with this at least five years, and it's always fun, and a great way to showcase your local hometown restaurant. It's a tasty win-win situation." By Eric Feber
