Lemon drop

Rumor has it that our Lemon Drop cupcake is helping overdue pregnant women deliver their babies. Of course we cannot confirm (no doctors in our bakery just yet!) but there does seem to be a pattern developing. Troy Snelling was born the daay after his Mom ate our Lemon Drop cupcakes. To test the theory we delivered a platter full of Lemon Drops to every Labor and Delivery Room in the area. Results are still coming in but, even if you aren’t pregnant, this is a very lemony cupcake baked every Friday!

Brooke and Julie Dashiell could win free cupcakes for a year!

She created “Orleans Praline” a pecan/almond coconut cupcake with a light java buttercream. Buy $1 minis at Norfolk or Chesapeake betw 7/28-8/3 to help her win Free Cupcakes for a Year “. Flavor 200: Girl Scouts help create “Happy Heart”

Goji, orange, apple, cranberry, chocolate, whole wheat yum

At 4pm, Wednesday February 16, 2011, Carolina Cupcakery will reveal “Happy Heart”, their new heart-healthy cupcake that is trans fat-free and tastes amazing, having been inspired by the Girl Scout cookie, “Thank You Berry Munch”.

A percentage of profits from the evening’s sales at the bakery will be donated to the LifeNet Foundation. Cupcake samples and smiles will be given free at Carolina Cupcakery’s Ghent location on the corner of Colley and 21st Street in Norfolk, Virginia.

February 16, 2011 was chosen for the event because the date marks the anniversary of Andy Barnard’s heart donation seven years ago and he will be at the store, answering questions. Barnard is a well-known speaker for organ donation through LifeNet, and the brother of Carolina Cupcakery owner Dawn Eskins’.

Williams School Girl Scout Troop 1708 helped create the cupcakes last week with Miss Dawn in her Norfolk kitchen, while learning about antioxidants and probiotic ingredients. On Wednesday, Scouts will help hand out “Happy Heart” samples and take orders for cookies being delivered next week, too.

About LifeNet Foundation:
Formed in 2001, the LifeNet Donor Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to perpetuate the honor and memory of organ and tissue donors by providing education, awareness and support to donor families and the community. It financially supports public and professional education programs geared to promote and raise awareness of organ and tissue donation. It also strives to support programs that serve the bereaved community, specifically families that have been involved in the donation process. Bling ’n Cupcakes for the HER Shelter

On Saturday January 22, 2011, Carolina Cupcakery and Silpada Designs Sterling Silver Jewelry, will co-sponsor a fundraiser to benefit The H.E.R. (Help and Emergency Response) Shelter. The event will be held at Carolina Cupcakery’s Ghent location on the corner of Colley and 21st Street in Norfolk, Virginia.

From 2pm – 5pm, Jennifer Gresham of Silpada Designs will set up shop with actual “bling” (premium sterling silver jewelry) for sale, as Cupcakery promotes their new “Bling” cupcakes (Red velvet cupcakes stuffed with marshmallow cream and topped with rich dark chocolate ganache). At the end of the day both companies will donate proceeds from sales to the women’s emergency shelter.

A January 2011 Virginian-Pilot article detailing shelter challenges to manage a 71% surge in demand, is what inspired Gresham to seek out a fundraising partner and Carolina Cupcakery owner Dawn Eskins answered the call. Together, the two companies hope to make a significant donation to the shelter and, if successful on Saturday, to host a followup event on Saturday the 29th.

About The H.E.R. (Help and Emergency Response) Shelter:  Founded in 1985, The HER Shelter provides advocacy, support and education to those who have been affected by domestic abuse in the cities of Chesapeake and Portsmouth Va. Working under the belief that everyone is entitled to a violence-free life, HER provides emergency shelter to 42 women and children every night and provides comprehensive programs to help them become self-sufficient.
